With its white sandy beaches, pine forests, snow-capped peaks, traditional villages, lush river valleys and olive groves, the GR7 takes you on a journey through the most geographically diverse region on the Iberian peninsula. The guidebook route ends at Puebla de Don Fadrique and we walked another 220 kilometers of the GR-7 beyond that point. The various sources of route information we had were occasionally in conflict. The written text in the guidebook did not always match the printed maps in the guidebook.

Unfortunately, after a few hundred metres, the GR7 marked route plunges off the side of this track and into a massive ravine before, evidently, toiling its way back up the mountain to the same track we are now on. Our guide book says the track ahead was destroyed by a massive landslide in 2010.
