The
May & June 2004 issue of The Perfect Vision, gave the editors
choice award to an Image surround system. TPV also gave an editors
choice award to the SubSonic 5i, and recommends SubSonic 10 and
a Platinum M2 system.
PSB
Platinum SubSonic 10
“The
dual – 10” driver design of this over-built 500W powerhouse
hasn’t met a bass note above 20Hz it can’t handle
with muscle and finesse. Musical on a grand scale with intimidating
dynamic punch. There’s no going back to an everyday sub
after this PSB. And at 110 pounds, who’s going to move it?”
PSB Platinum
M2
“It’s hard to think of how $8K could be better spent
in service of the music and the multichannel experience. The aluminum-sheathed
Platinum M2
and C2
center and S2
surrounds are able to reproduce the weight, majesty, and complexity
of any source material in stereo or 5.1. The entire system blends
seamlessly with the SubSonic 10 subwoofer.”

The
Perfect Vision gave an "Editors Best Buy" award to an
Image System anchored by the Image 6T. Giving the second editors
Best Buy to the SubSonic 5i. TPV also gave the status of "Recommended
Component" to the Platinum SubSonic 10 and the M2
System. |

August & September 2003 issue of The Absolute Sound rates the
5T in it's editor's best buy catigory. Listing the 5T as "A killer
value!"
|
 |
Rich, dynamic, spacious and
easy on the ears, PSB’s
Image 5T is yet another remarkable
performer from this Canadian
manufacturer. What it gives
up in ultimate delicacy and detail,
it more than makes up for in every other
way. A killer value! |

August
& September 2003 issue of The Absolute Sound gives top honors
to the Alpha B, with yet another Editors' best buy award. |
... PSB’s
Alpha B...
does what a good mini should:
Sounds open and spacious, with precise
imaging and good three-dimensionality. The midrange
is honest and musically engaging, though bass and
dynamics are, of course, limited. -WAYNE GARCIA |

The
Perfect Vision May / June Issue Made the PSB
SubSonic 5i part of their Editors' choice awards |
 |
At this point no one should be surprised at what this Canadian speaker
company can do in the lower-price range.
Even so, the performance of this econo-sub is semi-unbelievable. Extension,
dynamic slam, and good musicality
from this 10" bass-reflex design makes it perfect for misers
with Champagne taste.

The
Perfect Vision May / June Issue Made the PSB
Image system a "Best Buy" in the $1500 - $3000 range. |
With pinpoint imaging, excellent dialogue clarity, and good dynamics,
PSB’s Image system is another winner from a company with a history
of building terrific-sounding, high-value speakers. The Image 6T towers
are lively and dynamic; the 9C center channel is clean and robust;
the 3LR’s mate beautifully as surrounds, and the SubSonic 6
effectively fills out the bottom end while widening dynamic contrasts.
Add
excellent speaker-to-speaker tonality and a large soundfield to the
list of this system’s many strengths. |

Reviewed by:
Bryan Southard
"I found
the PSB SubSonic 7 to be a great choice for home theater systems
with a large variety of price ranges. It will provide you with solid,
accurate energy for both music and movies. The Sub 7 has power,
accuracy and finesse at an affordable price and the ability to make
your movies rock. It’s a box that you can set up and forget,
then begin enjoying your movies as you never have before."

Stereophile
Recommends Alpha B, Image 4T, Alpha SubSonic 5 |
 |
In its October 2002 issue,
Stereophile again picks three PSB speakers as Recommended
Components:
The Alpha B:
"With this, the third and latest version of the Alpha, a long-recommended
two-way bass-reflex, Paul Barton has trickled down some of the design
and manufacturing innovations of his more expensive Image Series.
BJR was thrilled: 'The PSB is a classic example of the benefits of
trickle-down technology in a serious high-end speaker design.' He
found that the Alpha B 'excelled with vocals,' presented 'excellent
articulation of subtle transients and microdynamic inflections,' and
showcased superb detail resolution and low-level dynamic resolution...'Even
now, considering again the quality of construction and sound of these
remarkable little boxes, and checking the price yet again, I'm still
shaking my head.'"
The Image 4T:
"A lot of technology for the price, declared BJR, who found a smooth,
natural tonal balance that sounded superb with vocalists: lots of
body and no colorations. A transparent midrange revealed inner transient
detail, and Bob says the Image loved woodwinds. 'Its bass performance
was uncanny, with a bottom-end extension I didn't think possible from
a speaker of this size and price.'...The speakers didn't call attention
to themselves, the PSBs disappearing into the wide, deep soundstage."
The Alpha SubSonic 5:
"Cost-effective, quick, and articulate, said CS, with more dynamic
control than the old SubSonic 1 -- and it costs the same! Helped 'snap'
the soundstage of the Alpha Minis into sharp focus, adding to their
presentation more 'live' room cues, and greater detail and stability.
"Musically involving and eminently affordable,' he summed up."

New PSB Picks by The $ensible
Sound |
 |
Every mid-year, The
$ensible Sound, which places a premium on products with a high
performance/price ratio, publishes its "Staff Picks." These are the
choices of the magazine's demanding editorial staff. We are happy
that once again PSB is amply represented, specifically:
The Stratus Gold
"Very good in every performance area. Hard to beat overall, especially
at the price."
The Image 2B "Clean, supple midrange; unaffected highs; and
a generous helping of mid-bass with the barest hint of deep bass.
The 2Bs are musical speakers, apparently gimmick-free, whose strengths
belie their price."
Alpha SubSonic 5 Subwoofer "An excellent way to add bass to
a small system."
Alpha A/VThis speaker, replaced by the Alpha B (which we hope
the magazine will be reviewing shortly) is still available in small
quantities in some parts of the world. Says the magazine: "These speakers
give new meaning to the old adage 'good things come in small packages.'"

in the center-channel category.

CES Innovations
2001 Award |
There is always some pretty intense
scrambling to be among the Consumer Electronics Manufacturing Association's
prestigious Innovations Award winners at the annual
Consumer Electronics Show held every January in Las Vegas. So we are
delighted that at CES 2001 another PSB speaker, the Image 7PT,
has joined the several other PSB models (Alpha Series, Stratus
Gold-i, Stratus SubSonic subwoofers) given this accolade
in the past.
The award to the Image 7PT, the inventive loudspeaker that
adds powered bass to the other compelling listener inducements of
the Image Series, was made not only for its particular powered design
but for the overall design breakthroughs of the Image Series, whose
runaway popularity has helped prove that meaningful innovation does
register with the audio/video public. Our thanks to CEMA for the award,
and to our customers for their overwhelming response to the entire
Image Series.

These recommendations mean a great deal to us. And while we certainly urge
you to go listen and make your own judgments, we hope these listings may
help you decide to do that, as may the award for excellence in design that
our Stratus Gold
and to the Stratus SubSonic 3i
subwoofer received in the "Innovations" competition at the 1998 Consumer
Electronics Show, and the same award given to our expanded Alpha
Series in the "Innovations '97" competition.
